About Sustainability Country
As the sister online publication to Sustainability City, originating in 2007 as part of the Wild Gardeners group at Soul Food Cafe, Sustainability Country provides another side to sustainability, as perceived in a country setting. Sustainability is just as important in the country as in the city. In some ways, the two sustainability concerns may have issues in common, and may just as often widely differ. In many ways, there is unity in diversity, as different cultural origins meet in Nature in the Australian Countryside.
Pomegranates by a River…

Kookaburra in a Gum Tree…

Australia is formed by two nature strains, one old European contributed by the settlers who populated it from the first official discovery onwards, the other indigenous native which bears ancient roots reaching back before man walked the land. The two seem to “get along” and get sustainable together. With the exception of a few weeds perhaps, there is no interruption to the picturesque when in the countryside, as the two have merged to flourish together.
Sustainability Country is about adapting, and change, and also diversity, also the role it plays in manageable sustainability. Nothing must be wasted in good sustainability practice, and meaningful partnerships are often made between man and nature. While all are not perfect, the focus of this publication is to draw attention to what works, how it works, and especially how diversity is managed without loss. There is no reason why diverse cultures and influences cannot merge sustainably in the Australian Countryside.
